My work 'Enough to dream lucid' is a site-specific installation, originally created specifically for the group exhibition 'Semi-Shadow' at Faur Zsófi Gallery - Panel Contemporary, FŰZ Art Group.
The point of departure is the theme of the exhibition, which deals with questions of the interconnections between consciousness and unconsciousness, and within that, the transition between the two. For this exhibition, the theme I proposed was chosen as the starting point, as we plan our joint projects in the Willow by choosing themes that are dealt with by the artists in the group, in addition to other exhibitions.
My installation is made with my typical technical solutions, the raw white textile installed hanging in the space gives space to pen and ink drawing and watercolour, acrylic, textile paint and embroidery. Giving this an organic frame, one of the textile sculpture elements appears, hanging like tendrils to the ground and creeping up to the ceiling, enveloping it. Another part of the ensemble of works are the tentacled tendrils of black lacquer material that creep in the background, which, with their biomorphic appearance, seem to move, suggesting a continuous connection between light and dark sides.
I designed the space installation to include the passage through the space, using a light-absorbing black textile to seal the space, which I also used to create a creeping puddle-like cut-out on the ground.
C. G. Jung uses the example of a spotlight to explain how the relationship between consciousness and unconsciousness works, what happens to be in the field of vision of the beam of light. Hence the title of our exhibition 'Half Shadow'. And my work 'Enough to dream lucid' reflects on a dream of mine, the existence of the dreaming process as a 'subconscious loophole', a state that is completely elusive and never permanent.
