Let's Play series –
2019 - 2020

The starting point of the series was to explore different themes by going further and deeper along the concept and technical experiments of my thesis on the Inner Garden. These themes, which were important to me, were only touched on superficially in the making of The Inner Garden, my first work using textile-based embroidery and other techniques. At the time, it occurred to me that the Inner Garden was like the cover of a book, which I needed to follow in order to fill the book with more detailed explanations. It felt organically self-evident, especially along the lines of my study of C. G. Jung's writings, to explore further questions regarding the inexhaustible consciousness-unconsciousness linkage, within which I would explore the relationship between childhood, childhood memories and later adult identity consciousness.
- How are our childhood experiences present in our lives?
- How can these experiences influence us in our present lives?
- How much are we aware of them?
These are some of the questions I am currently exploring in my creative work, which has its roots in the Let's Play series.

The pieces in the series are a retrospective look back at my own childhood and my current life from the perspective of my childhood. They are intermingled to form surreal scenes, revisiting the threads of thought, emotion and feeling that were deposited then and are still present in the unconscious. In doing so, I also began to explore theories about how childhood experiences and traumas affect us later in life, using my personal examples.

Technically, thinking on a smaller scale felt fitting, retaining the inherent raw floating quality of soft textiles as a base material. In addition to embroidery techniques, I began to experiment with the constant mixing of pen-and-ink drawing, and acrylic, watercolour, and textile paint. The works are unframed, and I wanted to avoid any rigidity, in order to create a look that reflects the organic intangibility of the inner psyche. The two sides of the works form a unity, with the front of the embroidered image symbolising the conscious and the back the subconscious.
