The skin sees when the eyes touch / Bőrlátás – 2024

My solo project ‘The skin sees when the eyes touch’ was realized in the spring of 2024, in which the artworks were structured in a network of spaces built as organic elements in the Inda Gallery in Budapest.
The book "The eyes of the skin" by Juhani Pallasmaa - which is also the starting point for the title of the project - served as the basis for the exhibition.

Through a personal approach, I created embodied ensembles of textile and glass objects, whereby the transitions between materials, fabric overlays and the sprawling forms of natural latex, as fragments reminiscent of body parts, stimulate touch, thus helping to explore transformative layers of perception, especially the interplay between vision and the haptic sense.

Curated by Annamária Szabó and Zsolt Kozma

My aim was to evoke a spatial experience that would affect the senses, reflecting on the cyclicity of the three spaces opening out from each other, the cyclicity of the circle, the journeys of different lived experiences. The exhibited works disconnect their recipients from the overload of a vision-centred reality, and thus, through their perception of the peripherally formed spectacle, they let the visitor into the fabric of the self. Seeing and being seen, touching and being touched, threads the spatial system. The viewer’s desire to know by touch eliminates the distance between them and the works.
By experiencing them, they themselves are revealed as a touchable skin surface in a touchable/tactile proliferation of vulnerability, cell membranes, pre- and non-verbal emotions.
In the final space we arrive in a cave, embraced by the colour of soft warm flesh, through which we become receptive, while the grips of the mind are overcome by the composition of the voice of composer Rozi Mákó. This is a place where illusion falls before our eyes, where the distance between human and matter is no longer there, where we are drawn to the darkness, which is not frightening but nourishing and helps us to create without illusions, where fixed, rigid structures dissolve, where we ourselves become transparent and permeable.
For the exhibition, I organized a movement therapy workshop and a guided tour with Anikó Illés, an art psychologist, aimed at interactively engaging the audience. Finally, we held experiential talks in the space, which contributed greatly to my research on the themes explored.
